The Dallas Cowboys host their annual Thanksgiving Day game and this year they welcome the defending Super Bowl Champions the New Orleans Saints.

It’s been a disappointing year for the Dallas Cowboys as their dream of playing in and hosting the Super Bowl appear dead. With making the playoffs taking a miracle, the Cowboys look to play the role of spoiler as Jason Garrett looks to prove that he is a worth candidate to become the actual head Coach as opposed to the interim tag he has been labeled with since taking over for the fired Wade Phillips. Garrett is off to a 2-0 start and he’s been helped by the improved play of Jon Kitna who has completed 63.3 percent of his passes for 1,223 yards with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The running game still needs work but it has been improving, picking up key first downs and giving the offense a chance by giving the Cowboys reasonable down and distance to work with. Jason Witten leads all Dallas receivers with 50 catches but Miles Austin leads in yards with 732 and Dez Bryant is becoming the force most expected as he leads in touchdown receptions with six. Bradie James is the Cowboys leading tackler with 76 and Ketih Brooking has 73. DeMarcus Ware has eight and a half sacks and Dallas has 20 as a team. Terrance Newman has two interception and Bryan McCann looks to be a budding star with an interception return for a touchdown and a special teams touchdown in the last two games. As a team Dallas is averaging 22.9 points and 356.6 yards while the defense is allowing 27.1 points and 352.4 yards per game.

The New Orleans Saints are in second place in the NFC South, a game back of the Atlanta Falcons and in a log jam of teams all tied for what would be two Wild Card spots. The Saints are coming on strong but they have been doing it without their backfield and while rumors of Reggie Bush’s return surface just about every Monday, he has yet to return from his injury and Pierre Thomas remains out as well but the Saints will need them over the final portion of the season if they are going to have a shot at repeating. Drew Brees is having another superlative year and is looking like a Hall of Fame cinch as he has completed 69.5 percent of his passes for 2,969 yards with 22 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Chris Ivory has filled in the backfield gaining 481 yards but scoring just one touchdown. Marques Colston has 62 catches for 705 yards and four touchdowns while Lance Moore has 38 catches for 491 yards and five touchdowns. Jonathan Vilma anchors the defense with 62 tackles and two sacks while Roman Harper has 55 tackles. Sedrick Ellis has four sacks and Jabari Greer leads in interceptions with two but the Saints don’t have anywhere near the turnover margin they had last season. For the season New Orleans is averaging 23.5 points and 382.3 yards per game while the defense is allowing 17 points and 291.7 yards per game.

Dallas is 3-8 against the spread in their last 11 games overall, 1-4 against the spread in their last five home games, and 2-6 against the spread in their last eight against the NFC. New Orleans is 4-1 against the spread in their last five as a favorite, 6-13 against the spread in their last 19 against the NFC, and 3-8 against the spread in their last 11 games following a win. The underdog has covered in the last six meetings of these two.

These two met last season in New Orleans and it was the Saints first loss of the season in a game that wasn’t even competitive. Both of these teams have offenses that are loaded with talent and on the National stage with a game loaded with TV time outs, it means a lot of stoppages and plenty of possessions for both sides. For my free play I’ll go with the over which is at 50 currently.

The New York Jets have become the league’s most exciting team to watch as they continue to take games down to the wire. For four straight games the Jets have won their games inside the final two-minute warning or overtime. The Cincinnati Bengals wish they could have the same finishes the Jets have been producing as they seem to come up short week after week at the end of the game.

The New York Jets will host the Bengals Thanksgiving night and the stadium is sure to be rocking after another late game win last week against the Houston Texans. After giving up 20 points in the fourth quarter to the Texans, the Jets found themselves down four with less than a minute on the clock. After a short pass play, Sanchez hit Tomlinson over the middle who scrambled down the field for about a 20 yard gain. On the next play Sanchez hit Braylon Edwards down the sidelines inside the 10 on the Texans. One play later Sanchez hit Santonio Holmes on a in and out route that landed in the corner of the endzone beautifully into the open arms of Holmes who made getting two feet inbounds look as simple as chewing bubble gum. The comeback was complete and the Jets wrote another chapter to their historic season. The win also allows to Jets to keep pace with division rivals the Patriots atop the AFC East. As the Jets get ready for the Bengals the main focus on everyones mind will be Darrelle Revis against Terrell Owens. Both of these players have shared their feelings about each other through the media and it should make for a great matchup. The Jets have become pass happy the last few weeks and it has been a complete turnaround of their usual philosophy. Against the Bengals we should look for Sanchez and the Jets to continue the 50/50 split with run/pass plays with the pass plays starting to emerge about the 50% mark. Santonio Holmes is beginning to run this offense in his own right and this week he should have another friendly stat line.

The Cincinnati Bengals continue to fill their season with let downs with the latest being a blown lead against the Buffalo Bills. The Bengals allowed the Bills to rip them to shreds in the second half and comeback in a massive way. With the season under wraps the Bengals can only play for pride from this point forward and most of the focus in this one will fall on the wideout/corner matchup between the Bengals and the Jets. Ochocinco continues to get frustrated with more passes going to Owens and the offense is pretty much a shambles. The Bengals will have trouble running the ball against New York’s stout run defense, and are going to likely have to find somewhere else to throw the ball other than Revis and Cromartie’s direction. That doesn’t leave much room for an offense to operate and on a short week that makes it even tougher. With both sides of the ball likely to have trouble against the Jets it leaves little to the imagination as to why they have had so much trouble closing games out this season. The main focus for the defense will be to stop LT and Shonne Greene in the running game, but with Sanchez getting better and better each week it will be a real challenge keeping him under control enough for the Bengals to allow their offense a chance to steal this game.

This season has been two polar opposites for these two teams. The Jets get to walk into their home stadium sitting 8-2 surrounded by their home crowd facing a road team that is 2-8 and going backwards. Rex Ryan will have the Jets ready to play this game and they will not disappoint. Even though most of the Jets games have finished close to the vest in recent weeks they will have this game under control from the start and not let another Houston repeat occur. Watch for the Jets to take it to the Bengals in this one and cover the spread thanks to Sachez’s right arm and that tough Rex Ryan defense.

Thanksgiving day is a time when people get together and enjoy each others company. Shortly after the company is enjoyed, the television gets turned on and football once again rules the day. This Thanksgiving the Lions will continue their tradition of playing at home as the high-flying New England Patriots stroll into town boasting the league’s top record.

The New England Patriots should enjoy a nice ‘stats’ day as they should be able to fill up the box score with some nice numbers for themselves. After coming off of a home win against Peyton Manning and the Colts it does alot for your team, even if they are already moving through the league quite nicely. Brady led the Patriots along with running back Danny Woodhead, who continues to impress, towards 31 points for the game. While New England allowed over 400 yards of offense to Manning, who has victimized a defense or two in his career, they were still able to come up with a key interception on the Colts last drive which was heading for the endzone and a likely Patriots loss. Tom Brady has thrown 19 touchdowns this season while posting 2,362 yards in the process. Danny Woodhead seems to pop up at opportune moments for the Patriots and this week it was both in the run game and in the return game. With an offense that seems to be speeding ahead after figuring out their problems post Randy Moss, it has not really mattered much that the defense has allowed opponents to dice them at times. Currently Tom Brady is listed as questionable for this game and hasn’t practiced this week, but since its the Patriots there is no reason to believe he will not be on the field. Once on the field he should have a great time as the Lions defense will do little to slow down his throws. The only real threat to Brady on this defense will be defensive lineman Suh who can turn a teams season around with just one hit. On the other side of the ball, the defense may have a little trouble with this Lions offense who has put up some decent totals on the scoreboard this season, but with some injury woes there the Patriots defenders might have a big play or two in them somewhere.

The Detroit Lions will be well at home come gametime as they add another chapter to their Thankgiving day games history. Hopes are that the Lions can add the Patriots to their wins list this season, but it might be the toughest thing they’ve tried to do this season. The Lions have been close in two of their last three game which turned out to be losses, and last week they caught a visit from the Dallas Cowboys. At halftime the Lions were keeping pace and actually ahead. However, after a punt gone wrong for the Lions it was all Dallas in the second half as Detroit lost 35-19. The Lions have done well against the spread as of late, but against the Patriots anything is possible. The Lions will be without their starting running back for this one and injuries on the line have hurt them dramatically this season. Expect the Lions gameplan to be a little run heavy to start and try and keep the ball from Brady, but eventually the passes are going to start flying if they fall behind early. Calvin Johnson will need to play a big roll against a beatable defense as he might be the only real target the Lions can count on at the moment.

Detroit always likes to put on a show for their fans on Turkey day, but with the Patriots visiting town it may not be a good opportunity to impress the fans. Take the Patriots in this one and expect them to put up around 30 points against a porous Lions defense. This game certainly has the possibility to go over, but I’m much more comfortable taking the Patriots in this one with confidence.
